Program: Born Learning with Knick Knack Puppets

Storyteller/Puppeteer Joy Nack and Knick Knack Puppets present “Live Your Dream” in the Geraldine Hirsch Community Room.  This Born Learning event is sponsored by the Friends Foundation, United Way and Success by 6.

Program:   Nocturnal Animals
Ages:   all ages

Time:  7:00 p.m.
Description:  
Have you heard the crackle of dried leaves or noticed glowing eyes in the shadows during your evening stroll and walked a little faster?  These sounds and sights are clues to the identities of our nocturnal neighbors.  Learn about Missouri’s night visitors at this program presented by the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center.

Program:   Dream Big, Build Big - LEGOS
Ages:  5-12 years old

Description:  
Our LEGO building theme for this program is “Rolling, Rolling, Rolling.”  Let’s get this summer rolling by creating LEGO things that go!  Creations will be displayed in the glass case in the lobby after this program.  Registration required. 

Program:   Stuffed Animal Sleepover
Ages:  3-6 years old

Time:  6:00 p.m.
Description:  
Wonder what happens when the library lights go out?  Bring your favorite stuffed animal to the library for a special story time.  After the stories, tuck in your stuffed animal for a library sleepover.  You say goodnight and go home – your stuffed animal is in for a real library adventure.  The next morning, pick up your stuffed friend, along with a  personalized memory book of all the fun!

Program:   Don Collop, Cowboy Poet, and Chuckwagon Cook
Ages:   all ages

Description:  
Don Collop – Cowboy Poet, Chuckwagon Cook and owner of the Flying T Bar E Ranch – will set up his chuckwagon outside the Cape Girardeau Public Library, demonstrating chuckwagon cooking and telling what life was like for the cowboy on a cattle drive.  Get a glimpse (and a taste) of history at the library .

Program:   Artists Dreams

Description:  
Salvador  Dali, a surrealist, created art that expressed the unique world of dreams.  Learn about the artist and create a work of art inspired by the Surrealist movement.

Ages:  5-12 years old

Description:  
Our LEGO building theme for this program is “Inventions.”  Celebrate some of the great inventions over the years – from the printing press to the roller coaster – and build your own LEGO invention.

Program:   Dream Catchers

Ages:   6-9 years old

Time:  1:00 – 2:30 p .m.
Description:  
The Sioux believe that a dream catcher changes a person’s dreams.  Good dreams filter through – Bad dreams stay in the net, disappearing with the light of day.  Make a dream catcher inspired by this Native American legend. Registration required. 

 

Program:   Drive-In Matinee

Description
:  Drive-ins are a blast from the past!  Our youngest library users are invited to come early and detail a cardboard car (AKA a box) to sit in for the show.  Bring your family, eat popcorn and enjoy a movie at the library.

Program:   Jay & Leslie’s Laughing Matters

Description:  
Bring dad to the Cape Girardeau Public Library on Father’s Day for Jay & Leslie’s Laughing Matters, featuring juggling, stories, and laughs.  While you are there, enter dad’s name for a chance to win a basket full of do-it-yourself fun!

Fun with Duplo blocks (AKA Little LEGOS for the preschool set) and other building materials.  Registration required.

Program:   Artists Dreams

Description:  
Alexander Calder looked at the world in a different way from most people, sculpting a new world from his imagination.  Learn about the artist, talk about your dreams, and make a dream mobile inspired by Calder’s art.

Program:   Dream Big, Build Big - LEGOS
Ages:  5-12 years old

Description:  
Our LEGO building theme for this program is “Sports/Games.”  The Olympics are this summer; recreate your favorite events with LEGOS.  Creations will be on display after this program.   Registration required. 

 

Program:   Building Together Drop-In Program - LEGOS
Ages:  5+ years old

Description:  
What can you build with 15,000 + LEGOS?  Grab a grown-up and find out!  Come play TOGETHER at the library.  Children ages 5 and up and their adult(s) are invited to imagine and create their own LEGO masterpieces. (This program will be repeated on July 14)

Program:   The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Description:  
Preschoolers are invited to join the caterpillar in this special story time as he eats his way through the week – and learn about nutrition in the process.  Program presented by Ann Knight and the University of Missouri Extension. 

Program:   Fairy Houses Drop-In Program

Time:  10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Description:  
Legend has it that if you build a fairy home and leave it in your garden, it will attract a fairy.  Even if you don’t believe in fairies, this is a fun creative project (and maybe even a way to test the myth…).
