Battling Boredom at the Library

Posted on:

July is Anti-Boredom Month and perfect timing too! July just so happens to be the height of summer reading. If you can’t beat boredom at the library, where else can you go? There are so many fun free things to do here from programs for all ages to books and bored games. And, with our library of things, there really is no excuse not to come into the library this summer.

Teen Programs:
Anime Club July 7th at 6:00pm
Dungeon Delvers (D&D Club) on July 10th & 17th at 4:00pm

Family Programs:
Community Hike at the Trail of Tears July 8th at 9:00am

Adult Programs:
Saturday Crafternoons: Clay Nature Imprints (12:00pm) & Macrame Peace Wreaths (2:00pm) July 8th
Books On Tap Book Club July 11th from 7:00pm to 8:30pm
Puzzle Exchange July 22nd from 1:00pm to 3:00pm

Board Games (these are my favorites):
*
Betrayal at the House on the Hill - I have actually an entire birthday around this game. So it's safe to say that this one is probably my favorite board game of all time..
*The Sheriff of Nottingham - I haven’t played this one in a while, but I remember having game nights in college where this one was popular.
*One Night Ultimate Werewolf - We use this one frequently here at the library. It's a favorite among groups both at family game nights and when library staff get together after work.

Library of Things:
*Learn to make pasta with the library’s Pasta Maker. My sister and I tried making pasta during the pandemic…it wasn’t the smoothest process without the attachment, but the pasta still tasted delicious.
*Try out some basic yoga techniques with the Yoga Set
*See what’s in your backyard with the Metal Detector
*Or search for birds with one of our Nature Backpacks
*And don’t forget our STEM activities where you can check out a Microscope!

Interested In Some New Music?
Our music collection here at the library, though small, is varied in range. Everything from Alternative, to Jazz, to Pop and Rock. My favorites are the few K-Pop albums:

BTS:
BE (2021)
Map of the Soul: 7 (2020)
Map of the Soul: Persona (2019)

Blackpink:
The Album (2020)

Movie and Television Fun:
Our movie collection here at the library is pretty extensive, from the newest blockbuster hits and television debuts to some of the more classic titles. There are plenty of DVDs to choose from and if we don’t have what you are looking for, we could probably get it from another library.
*Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves - I missed this one in theaters, so I made sure to put it on hold as soon as it hit the system. I wasn’t disappointed!
*Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
*
The Menu
*The Munsters: Season 1- This is a childhood favorite of mine.
*Ghosts: Season 1
*Yellowstone: Season 5

This is by no means a complete list of all the things to do here at the library, but it is a start. And when in doubt, there are always the books! Personally, I have had a bit of a slow reading year this year, but I am hoping that with the help of the Summer Reading Program I will get back on track. And if not, well there are plenty of other things here to fill the time.
