Board of Trustees

Mission

The mission of the Cape Girardeau Public Library is to be the community's first choice for information-gathering experiences through social interaction, programming, technology, and the written word for all ages.

Strategic Priorities

After receiving feedback from patrons, staff, and community members, the Board of Trustees has identified the following as key items to work toward in the next 3 to 5 years:

Maintenance and safety
  • Provide for the maintenance and upkeep of the existing facility to ensure it can continue serving the needs of our community for decades to come
  • The addition of a maintenance and storage shed, negating the need for storage expenses and freeing up space inside the library
  • Recruit, train, and develop a knowledgeable, collaborative staff
  • The addition of safety enhancements throughout the library
Community engagement and outreach
  • Improve access to library facilities and services in underserved areas and community-wide in Cape Girardeau through the addition of a bookmobile
  • Staff trained for and dedicated to outreach and community engagement
Improved access and services
  • The addition of youth and adult outdoor spaces for library and community programming as well as patron enjoyment
  • Offering a robust collection of digital content for library patrons to keep pace with demand
