Program Description

Event Details

Join us for a special presentation on the 2024 Solar Eclipse by Southeast Missouri State University professor, Dr. Jonathan Kessler.

We invite you on a journey through the cosmos to witness one of nature's most awe-inspiring spectacles: the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. This rare event not only offers a breathtaking view of the universe in action but also serves as a window into the fundamental workings of our solar system. Dr. Kessler will explore the science behind solar eclipses, highlighting the celestial mechanics that align the sun, moon, and Earth in such a captivating display. We'll delve into the significance of this particular eclipse and the unique scientific opportunities it presents, from studying the sun's corona to understanding the effects of solar eclipses on Earth's atmosphere. Whether you're a seasoned stargazer or new to the wonders of astronomy, this presentation aims to illuminate the mysteries of the eclipse and inspire a deeper appreciation for the beauty and science of our universe.

Registration for this event is required. Each registered participant will receive one pair of solar eclipse glasses at the event.
